What angers me is that the cat was apparently abandoned when it's humans
moved out of their apartment.

Don't get me started!

Every day is a treasure with Kenzie; I try to treat them that way. There
will only be so many, and then there will never, ever, be any more.

Not to mention that if the people come back and want to claim the cat,
they are legally entitled to get her back! Seems like some laws need to
be reformed. Those people should never be allowed to have another animal,
in addition for being prosecuted for animal abandonment. I know that in
many places in the US, that would be considered at least a misdemeanor,
but I don't know Ontario laws.

I just sent an email to the OSPCA, letting them know my concerns. I was very
polite about it - wasn't sure how they would feel hearing complaints about
Canadian laws from an American. But I do think something is lacking if
abusive/neglectful people are allowed to take back the animal they harmed.
IMO, of course.

And the SPCA plans to give the cat BACK to its owners if they show up?
Whatever happened to bringing criminal charges for cruelty? (Watching
the various "animal precinct" shows on Animal Planet, I get the
impression abandoning an animal under those circumstances is an
indictable offense, some places!)
