Rest In Peace, sweet Melissa. Thank you for trying to save the kitten. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=649987 Many years ago, the Allman Brothers Band played "Melissa" without knowing about this little girl and her heroism. But that song will run through my head for the rest of the day. Sweet Melissa... -- Will in New Haven |

Back home in TN it's always 30MPH where there are houses near the street, especially when there are school bus stops. In London near schools amd im built up areas it's 20MPH- they have this very effective radio ad that starts with someone saying "This is the noise a child will make if you hit them at 30MPH" followed by silence and then "This is the noise a child will make if you hit them at 20MPH" followed by a child crying then the voice says "Which would you rather hear?" Oh, of course during the times the buses (or parents) are dropping off or picking up children in a "school zone" the speed limit drops to 15 MPH. There are also always crossing guards for the kids who are walking to/from school. I was speaking of residential neighborhoods in general, really. 45MPH is way too fast. I have never driven. One lesson years ago led me to conclude the greatest thing I could do for road safety was use public transport There's a sore lack of public transportation both back home and where I am now at Mom's house. I don't live in the city limits back in TN. Inside the city limits is the only place where you can potentially catch a bus. There's no tube (subway) system or rail system there, either. At Mom's house I'm on one of a string of islands so public transport is unheard of! Jill |
