Do you put your TP on the roll with the end on the top (over hand) or on the
bottom (under hand)? I read somewhere that the vast majority of genius
level people place their TP on the rolls with the end on the top, which I
find funny as I've always placed it that way. So, over the top or bottom.
And do your owners have a preference? Mine prefer over the top as well. I
haven't found a correlation between kitty intelligence and toilet paper
placement, but then I haven't been looking all that hard.

The correlation is that cats can pull the entire roll off the core and
drag it through the house if it comes off the front (as they pull down
with their claws, the TP feeds off the roll), but there isn't much they
can do except claw it up if it comes off the back (clawing rolls up any
loose end). I learned to mount mine to come off the back many years ago
and haven't had trails of it through the house since. The current batch
of fourteen cats all just leave it alone.

They say you use less if you pull it over the bottom than over the top is
the only thing I know. I keep mine on the back of the stool as the cats
tend to grab the end and run through the house with it. Later when they get
bored, they tend to shred the stuff.

Over the top here. Somewhat easier to get at if there isn't a whole
lot of extra room.

Never had placement stop a determined cat. But they have all outgrown
it.

Now if I could figure out why male DNA prevents placing a tp roll on
the roller....

My guys do laundry, iron, vacuum, cook, wash dishes etc. But have
never been known to place a roll of tp on a tp roller.

(They also seem not to comprehend the notion of putting the empty roll
cardboard in a trash can)

Over hand. It simply doesn't make sense to have to reach underneath for it.
I hate it when they do that in public restrooms with those extra huge rolls
and you can only get maybe 2 sheets!

Persia doesn't care a whiff about toilet paper. Thank Bast! She could
really do a number on it if it occurred to her. But she's a more highly
evolved lady cat. She's preoccupied with things like lingering hummingbirds
and tiny lizards on the window screens....

Persia sounds like she would truly love the out of doors, if only it
were inside.

Entirely different wildlife back in west Tennessee where she has her
kitty-walk and I have my patio swing to sit on with a mug of coffee or hot
chocolate. Or a cold beer on a hot summer day. There are no lizards there.
Well, few and far between.

Different birds, too. There are no doves here. I miss hearing the mourning
doves. Whoo whoo whoo and the whistling sound their wings make when they fly
away. Ornithologists can't figure out what makes that whistling sound, just
like no one can agree on where a cats PURR comes from.

In the winter back home there are pine warblers, such cute tiny birds. We
have Carolina wrens are in both places, as are tufted titmice. And
chicadees... bee bee bee bee! And in both places cardinals. But here
rarely saucy blue jays who beat the squirrels to the raw peanuts.

I miss home. I really do.

Over hand - and Mir seemed to like it that way:

It was also easy to take off the roller:

I'm sooo glad she grew out of that phase.

I used to do it that way until Bracken discovered what fun it was to do
a 'log roll' on it with his front paws while standing on the cistern and
unwind the whole lot! Now it goes on 'underhand' only - if he repeats
that trick he will just wind it back up :-D

We don't put our TP in the rollers because then Maya would shred them to
pieces.
