Default A Large Maine Coon Cat

DH and I went to the cat show today. This is a large Southeastern
show with a lot of cats. I think there are fewer breeds than there
have been in the past. Of course there were a lot of persians with
their squished in faces. I did like the calico persian. She was
pretty. Rusty fell in love with a baby Abyssinian. He was as cute as
they come and very very young but very alert. There were very few
siamese, only saw about 5. There were a lot of Maine Coons. My theory
on this (like I know what I'm talking about right?) anyway, my theory
is that the judges have obviously favorites and everyone is bringing
what they know the judges like. They had a large Maine Coon sitting
on a chair at the end of one row. Everyone was petting him. After
taking a few pictures I wanted to pet him too and since I was at his
head I reached out and scritched his hears until he turned his cheek
into my hand. I stopped scratchng for a minute and he stood up and the
lady on the other side of the chair said "Ohhh, you want to come to
me? Come here baby" and the cat turned around and presented the lady
with his tail and came to me for some better scritches. I chuckled.
This cat knew what he wanted. He was tired of everyone petting his
back and sides, he wanted something that felt good to him. We
finished scritching him and walked across the aisle and we heard a
commotion back where the cat was and I turned around to see him on the
floor walking my way. The owner caught him before he got too far away,
but I think he was coming to tell me he wasn't finished with me yet
So many pretty cats. One of the American Shorthairs was placed on the
judging table and immediately climbed the sisal post on the table. He
wanted to get to the decorations and swat them around. A fun day was
had by all. Maybe we'll get a rescued Aby one day but I love my
moggies best of all.

I love to visit cat shows, too. I love moggies best, too, but it's amazing
to see all the varieties cats come in. Most fun of all is the
personalities. I know there are people who deplore cat shows, but in a way
it represents the proper order of things-- those cats seem to know, like
your Maine Coone friend, that they are there to be admired.

I love my silly little "unknown origins" Persia But the Cat Fanciers
Association cat show will be back in February just 3 miles down the road
from me and I can't wait to go! It was the best $5 I ever spent last year,
just walking around and looking at all the cats. There were a lot of
long-haired flat faced Persians But there were lots of other cats, too.
And tons of feather-toys! I was surprised at the lack of Siamese cats and
Russian Blues.
