Default Candidate for "First Dog"?

Last night's "News at Ten" included an announcement (with pictures) that
the Obama family has been offered (by the Peruvian government?) a canine
solution to their daughters' allergy problems. The gift of a four-month
old Peruvian Hairless dog! Judging from the pictures, it looks as
though it might grow to be a good sized adult, but it's adorable - dark
grey, with a fairly pointy snout, beagle-like tail, and enormous pointy
ears! (The newscaster said its name was "Ears", although the article I
read in the Huffington Post said it answers to "Machu Pichu", for the
famous Inca ruins in Peru.)

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peruvian_Hairless_Dog for pictures, etc.
