We were sitting together, watching the TV. Boyfie was asleep on my lap. I
went to get my remote control thingie from beside us and it ruffled a
paper.
He leapt up like he'd been electrified and dug his claws in to my leg get
away in panic.

Ouch. I have some blood on my leg.
He has never done that before. He does have a very extreme startle reflex .
He doesn't realise he has scratched me because he would never do it. He'd
be horrified if I told him he sunk a claw into my leg. so lets not mention
it, eh?

He is the most gentle cat in the world. He panicked. Not sure why but he
did.
It's not a problem to have a hole in my leg when I was probably just getting
the TV book to see what was on next.
I'm joking. It's a bit more than a pin prick but nothing to worry about.
For some reason he became scared.
Could have been the fireworks upsetting him. It's Diwali and the fireworks
were still going off at 1.30 this morning.

Poor Boyfie!! And poor you, too, for getting scratched. But it was
obviously not a hostile scratch. It's just that, when human skin is used
for traction during a feline panic attack, the results can be painful
and often bloody. I don't think this counts against his gentlemanly
reputation, though.

At work yesterday, the Hindus all pitched in and treated the rest of us
to a lovely (and delicious) lunch of Indian food from a local restaurant,
in honor of the holiday. It was the best I've ever had, I think - I'm
definitely going to go to that restaurant soon.

absolutely not. He doesn't even know he did it. I won't mention it to him.

He was (probably) in a deep sleep as he felt 'protected' while on your
lap, but because of the fireworks he was on 'high alert' and yes, the
slight rustling of the paper startled him awake. Poor Boyfie.

I don't know how many times this has happened at my house, but I have
the scars on my thighs to show it (and some of them happened through
thick denim jeans)!

This is something that happens frequently. Fortunately, it is not even
aggression--he was simply startled and tried to use you for traction.

Do be sure to clean that scratch well and use a light coat of triple
antibiotic on it (such as Neosporin here in the states--don't know if you
use the same brand). You probably already know this, but a puncture has
more potential for infection than a surface scratch. Your subject line says
"scratch," but you also mentioned that Boyfie "dug his claws in," so that's
why I reacted to a possible puncture--not a deep one, of course.

I keep a folded bath towel near me and when Tiger wants to get on my
lap, I place it on my lap first. Tiger is heavy and I know he would
jump off if the phone rings. Without the towel he would surely put some
holes in my leg. He is so used to this that he waits for me to place
the towel before getting on my lap.

That reminds me of the time, Snoopy, was on my lap and the doorbell rang,
she was so startled she dug her claws in as she leapt off, leaving a claw
sheath stuck in my leg.

Ouch! I'll bet that hurt! Persia reacts to the doorbell. Some
television commercials have a doorbell that sounds exactly like mine.
She'll start and I have to assure her, "It's on TV" Fortunately when
she does go flying off I usually have a throw over my legs so no damage.

I used to put a purr pad on my lap for Rusty (RB).
He loved it and it protected me from his claws.
But I did find claw marks on my sofa made when he jumped
off it.
Rusty usually wriggled before jumping off my lap so
was warmed. Sure missed him on my lap in this cold weather.
