Health and money purrs needed
Some purrs for both my health and my pocket book would be greatly appreciated. I will send you purrs for both and so will the Fearsome Foursome. If it is your ring finger going numb, and your little finger, that is the ulnar nerve which is the one that runs over the pointy part of your elbow and up into your hand. That's the one I wrecked a few years ago and lost feeling and strength in that half of my hand. I know how THAT feels. --Fil |

And what makes me think that it's something to do with the spinal column is that I have similar problems with the second smallest toe on my right foot too. I'm hoping/dreading I reach my $1500 deductible soon so I can go have an MRI on my upper back and neck. I really think that the fall I took last year may have pinched a nerve or something. Thanks for the purrs Fil! Hugs, CatNipped I know how THAT feels. --Fil |

Have you considered a massage or even a good ole back rub? I have a spot on my spine that will make my right arm go numb if I spent too many hours at a desk. But even a simple massage will clear it up. Its just a narrow spot that pinches when there is any inflammation. Jo |

Health and money purrs needed - Update and question
"Jack Campin - bogus address" wrote in message ... The Niferex the doctor prescribed is $45.95 for a ten day supply. Does anyone out there know if an equivalent generic or OTC iron supplement? Iron supplements vary a lot in how well they are absorbed by different people and how unpleasantly they upset your stomach. It would be nice to imagine that your doctor had considered your individual physiology before carefully selecting exactly that one rather than the dozen or so other chemically different forms of oral iron on the market, but somehow I doubt it. Can you ask him to suggest a cheaper alternative without it costing you to ask the question? The 2007 edition of the British National Formulary says that no fancy formulation is any better than plain ferrous sulfate (the cheapest) in either absorption or side-effects, so he had better have a damn good reason for suggesting something several times as expensive. All iron supplements can upset your stomach, so take them with food if that's what the packet says. Also: iron is better absorbed if you have an adequate intake of other micronutrients (copper, chromium, zinc, magnesium, vitamin C). A cheap multivitamin/mineral supplement without much iron should do it. Do you have the numbers to say how bad your anaemia is? The situation you've got into is one of the main reasons why I would never, ever consider living in the US again. There is no other country in the developed world where people are routinely reduced to destitution for getting sick. The US medical insurance industry is a nightmarish bunch of ghouls. At the risk of bashing my own country I'd have to agree with you at least somewhat. Trouble is you have the same sort of ghouls working in your health care system as far as I can see. Nobody seems to be winning. A big problem in the US is that for the most part most of us have it pretty good. Universal health care would mean those of us who have adequate health care now would pay more and get less. We tend to be that altruistic in general, but not in particular. Jo |

Health and money purrs needed - Update and question
prescription help--
Not to sound negative but good luck--apparently it's not as easy as it sounds on the commercials. I had a friend who was unemployed for a couple of years--had lots of meds after his heart surgery. He lost everything--his retirement--EVERYTHING. Had to move in with his daughter. Tried over and over to get prescription assistance. The only thing that saved him was that his daughter went to work for a cardiology team and they got samples for him. He said if he couldn't get help, he couldn't imagine what it would take. He finally got a new job, and moved to Spring. Six months later he had emergency surgery and never made it off the bypass machine. Universal health care would mean those of us who have adequate health care now would pay more and get less. Not true necessarily true--may be a scare tactic by the industry--like doctors won't get paid well. Doctors in other countries with universal health care live very well. Maybe only one hummer per household instead of two. I think it could be worked out but the industry will not let it--too much at stake for the executives. -- ie ride fast, take chances. I do get DH to rub my shoulder and neck at the "accupressure points", but that really doesn't give me any releive after he stops. Hugs, CatNipped Jo |

Health and money purrs needed

I had scheduled a visit with my doctor because the pain from when I broke my arm has just continued to worsen over the last year. I've been to several orthopedists and all they do is take an x-ray and shoot cortisone shots into my funny bone tendon - yet the pain continues to worsen. I have a feeling that when I fell, since I was airborne for a second and my right hand was the first part of my body to hit the cement, that I did more than just fracture and partially shatter my wrist bone. I think I injured something in the spinal column of my neck (the pain there is really bad and when I move my head around it sort of crunches there). Also, not only has the ring finger of my right hand started feeling funny and numb, but the corresponding toe on my right foot is feeling the same. Sounds to me like the problem is in your cervical spine possibly spondyolisthesis (Sounds odd but it's just where two vertebrae have slipped onto each other and the nerve gets trapped) From the symptoms I'm having, having looked them up online (I know, bad idea since it only scares you more), two possible causes of the severe anemia are leukemia or colon cancer. Time for me to pass on some friendly advice- I work in medicine and over the years I convinced myself every little twinge is a lot more serious than it is (there's a book called "French's Index of Differential Diagnosis", which is evry hypochondriacs dream- it lists every possible symptom and every possible cause, believe me in this book "Smiling" is listed as a symptom for several major illnesses including schizophrenia and tetanus but funnily enough "has just recieved some good news or something nice has happened are not listed as possible diagnoses) . It may be serious but then again it may be something easily treatable you won't know until the test results come back so try not to think about it. Yes I know this is impossible, it's going to hang over you until it's cleared but bear in mind the cautionary tale of my mum....Many years ago she was having her smear done and the doctor said he could feel a mass in her left side, "What d'you think it is?" asked my mum and this doctor being a complete prat said he thought she had ovarian cancer there and he was referring her to the specialist the following week.....My mum went through Hell that week, she cried and cried and couldn't sleep. The specialist completely failed to find the mass...he asked her a couple of questions and swiftly reached the conclusion that she had been constipated and that was what the junior doctor felt! Now the really, really bad news. My new insurance only pays for preventative treatment up to a $1,500 deductible per year and then after that still only pays a portion of your cost. So I have to pay for all the testing and all the treatment out of our non-existent savings! Some purrs for both my health and my pocket book would be greatly appreciated. You don't need to ask two Fabulous Furballs despite the fact it is so hot, they are flopped out and wishing they didn't have fur coats are sending a nice load of purrs for you and your pocket book now Lesley Slave of the Fabulous Furballs |

A back rub doesn't help me right away, but the next morning I feel better. Do you have access to a Jacuzzi? That can do wonders too. I'd suggest a chiropractor, but I don't trust 90% of them. And I'd go ahead with the neuro stuff first to be sure they wouldn't just be doing further damage. They tend to want xrays etc now and I doubt your insurance would even count anything they did toward your deductible. Its great if you can find a good. Chiro. Mine retired. Jo |
