OT Rant
I applied to teacher training college last year. I was late in my
application, but when i had an interview at the training college they said I would have a guaranteed place this year provided I took a Chemistry A'level. So, I dutifully went back to school, 2 nights a week to take this bloody qualification. 6 hours of school chemistry a week with the associated exams. Bearing in mind I have 2 f*cking university degrees, and have taught 3rd year undergrad universtity students - I still had to take this f*cking A'level to *qualify* to teach school kids. It has been tough to do the course work - it's a year long commitment and quite frankly, I don't really have the time because I have so much other stuff going on - but you make the time so that you can move on. I was told I had a guaranteed place by the course tutor - I just had to apply in the normal manner. Today I checked the Teacher training website, to find my f*cking application had been refused by the training college! I am so angry! If I had known I was going to be messed about, I would have not bothered with the Chemistry A'level. These f*cking training colleges take 21 year old wonders straight out of university, with NO life experience, and claim that they're "Better" than more mature students with more life skills. My application has been passed onto a college closer to home, but I don't hold out much hope. I've emailed the course tutor asking why i've been refused, and I'll be interested in her response, but ****! I am so frigging annoyed. Rant over. Thanks for listening. I'm not sure what the college thinks it's doing, must be mad! Thought we had
a teacher shortage here too. I would be inclined to make a formal complaint, sometimes they will overturn a decision. Mind you, with a politician who will allow sex offenders in schools, there seems to be no sense at the top either. I can't say I blame you for being PO'd. You'll certainly want to pursue your inquiries until you get a clear and believable answer. I know you are overseas if you came to Florida I can guarantee you a job in
any level of public school and a brand new laptop. Our governor is desperately looking for teachers and is promising that every teacher will have a new up to date laptop. |

I hate to say this, but someone with two university degrees who has taught 3rd year undergrad university students who comes to the States would still have to take basic "state tests" to get her license. And our teachers are not paid all that well. I feel sorry for the teachers who have to deal with unruly kids, uncaring parents, the possiblity of guns and drugs being brought in middle school let alone high school. I say she should appeal. But I hear daily reports of local school shootings and guns being brought to school and I don't wonder no one wants to be a teacher with all that going on. Jill |
