This is a big success AND very English. One is planned for my city, Vancouver, and will somehow reflect our West Coast love of animals. i think there will be more of a tie-in with humane education and cat adoption centres. |

You're the intended message recipient. Oh, I looked up the cat cafe in Paris and the one in London seems far, far superior in every way. Here is Paris. Not bad but not up to London standards. http://www.lecafedeschats.fr/ |

The Oakland one will be somewhere near Jack London Square and the SF one where they can get the best lease. No site for the Vancouver one yet. And Jill, when you replied to an earlier post directed at UK people who live near London, I thought you were a United Kingom resident. Honest mistake. |

That should be fun! Do let us know if you go. If? Not going isn't an option. And I'll definitely report on it when I do. It's not open yet. The US has strict laws regarding animals in a place where food is prepared. (Some people get all fussy about the idea of eating something that a cat has touched, go figure. ) Last I heard, which was pretty recently, they've come up with a solution where there will be two separate spaces, right next to each other, but with separate doors to the outside. In one, you can buy food and drinks, and in the other, you can visit the cats. I hope they'll let you bring your food into the cat space, or what's the point? It's a cat *cafe*. Anyway, I think the laws pertain to the preparation of food and not the consumption, so I imagine it will be OK to bring your snacks into the cat side of the cafe. -- Joyce Fluffy Mackerel Pudding - "Once upon a time, the world was young and the words 'mackerel' and 'pudding' existed far, far away from one another. But I don't know how far along they are in the planning stage. As for getting a lease in SF proper, good luck with that. I don't know what business rentals are going for these days, but the rents for residential apartments in San Francisco are *insane*. Seriously, it's crazy. I've never seen anything like it. Just the other day I heard about a 3-bedroom apartment, in a decent but not especially upscale neighborhood, renting for $5000/month. *Not a typo*!! It's not nearly as bad in the East Bay*, but as people who are priced out of renting in SF move eastward, I assume it will get worse. Rents have already gone up quite a bit. (* "East Bay": this refers to cities that are near the San Francisco Bay, on the east side of it. SF is on the west side.) -- Joyce Fluffy Mackerel Pudding - "Once upon a time, the world was young and the words 'mackerel' and 'pudding' existed far, far away from one another.
