Cat peeing out of box ??

Our Edgar, who's five years old and has been with us about 3 years now and
is neutered and up to date with his shots, is used to picking at one spot on
the carpet, especially when he gets excited as he sees me go to get his
food.

Today he did something that's never happened before. He picked a small
different area of the carpet literally to shreds, and then peed on the mess
he created. Usually he is very good about using the litterbox.

This is the first time this has happened. He refuses to come and be petted
(usually he loves head scratching almost anytime).

Obviously if this continues, a visit to TED will be in order. Meanwhile, can
anyone shed some light on this? There had been no change in their food or
water or dry food, the litter box is cleaned regularly, and his sister (same
litter) who's been with us all along shows no signs of anything amiss.

I wish I could offer any other suggestion other than the visit to TED.
Obviously something set him off.

The only time Persia (RB) ever peed outside of the box was when she had
a bladder infection.

It's too bad they can't simply tell us what's going on. Cats. Gotta
love 'em. And constantly try to figure them out.

I'd sat a trip to the vet is definitely indicated! Clearly he's trying
to tell you something - too bad most humans don't speak Cat.

I would get him to the vet right now if not sooner. Particularly
with the last symptom. That sort of withdrawal was what our Ishmael
did when he had an acute urinary obstruction. That can be fatal
within hours but a vet can usually fix it quickly.
