Whoopsie - almost flattened a cat!

I scared the bejeebus out of Bam-Bam last night: was watching TV with
the hubby, and went to put my feet/legs up on the ottoman, wasn't paying
attention and inadvertently slammed one leg (calf) down on Bam-Bam's
rear quarter-panel (grin)... he must have been deep in kitty-dream-land,
because exploded off the ottoman and crouched near a litterbox, staring
spookedly around, wondering just which-kitty attacked him, but no-one
else was near. Took almost 15 minutes for him to clam down, while I
alternated between giggling at him and trying to console him....

I think perhaps you hurt his dignity. That seems to be the part that
is most sensitive.
