A Tribute to Lissa, House of Terrell
Patrick, squaring his shoulders and swallowing hard, taps the microphone
and begins: "Our hearts are broken that our sister Lissa has gone to the bridge so young. Now our family is planning for the time we will all be together again at the Rainbow Bridge. Our hoomin moms say we are the best litter of kittens ever born, and we will always try to live up to that by being brave, even though our sister has left us behind." Patrick gives briar, bramble, and mamaPhoebe a hug and stands with them while the tribute from MomEllie is read. MomEllie takes her place at the microphone and begins to speak: "I first saw her on a chilly day in early May in a kitty pile with her two sisters and her brother, being protected by the gorgeous white stray cat with the intense blue eyes who had been hanging around our outside food bowl. After a couple of weeks they had moved into our house and our hearts. As the babies grew, first Patrick went to live with Annz, then briar and bramble went to live with micki, but Lissa stayed with Phoebe and us. I always called her my "baby girl." Mother and daughter loved wrestling, racing up and down the hall and snuggling together on the sofa in the sunbeams. Lissa was always beautiful, with eyes rimmed in black as though she'd been playing in the eye liner, and furs so long, soft, and silky it makes my heart hurt to think about it now. Lissa was always our little ray of sunshine. She was athletic and so strong her headbutts could easily bruise me, and she could jump gracefully and easily halfway up the wall to get a moth. Yet she was also timid with new people and very afraid of going in the car. so afraid that I truly feared for her when she had to go to TED. Lissa was never predictable. In the mornings, I could always count on Princess Pasha & Phoebe to follow me from food bowl to food bowl, but Lissa would often be too interested in something else, or her nap, to bother. Lissa's favorite "trick" was to walk in front of me, then suddenly do a flip, and with tummy up and legs stretched out, *dare* me to walk on past without giving her tummy rubs. I could never resist. We will never understand what happened, but from what Krystal said, it almost appeared that Lissa was in the middle of something and just died instantly. No matter what caused it, I DO know that she was happy and lively and full of fun the last time I saw her. She gave no indication that she was ill or even out of sorts. I'm grateful for that, at least. She's gone from our world, and we are so much less now than we were when she was with us. Her body is resting under a crabapple tree, where she will always be surrounded by the burdies she loved to watch. I expect to find her one day at the Rainbow Bridge, tummy up, asking for tummy rubs. If ever the saying "live fast, love hard, die young and leave a beautiful memory" applied to anyone it would be our Lissa. She died much too soon, but the beautiful memories of her life with us will be in our hearts always. Goodbye Baby Girl, we love you and miss you. Mom, Dad, MamaPhoebe & Princess Pasha |
