Default putting an inside car outside ??

I have 3 cats. One of them is a 28 pound cat that I found when he was just
a few weeks old. That was in August 2000.

Recently, he has started peeing and pooping in places other than the litter
box. The vet says there is nothing medically wrong with him. My wife
always hated the cat and was always ****ed at me for keeping him and not
letting someone else take him. This latest peeing and pooping adventure was
the last straw for her and he put her food down! We have a 14 month old and
she (and I) don't want out son crawling and walking around the house through
cat **** and crap, so she gave me three options:

1. Bring the cat to the vet and put him down, which I am not going to do.

2. Give the cat away. That's no good, no one wants a fat cat that ****es
and carps in the house.

3. Put him outside. That is the option I took.

I have a big dog house out in the back years, and a fully fenced years (six
foot) which the cat is to fat to jump over. He had been hanging out in the
dog house for the most part.

I know many of you will say I am cruel for putting him out, but I wanted to
know if anyone has ever done the same? How did the cat take to outdoor
life?

Any comments about making an indoor car and outdoor car would be
appreciated.

well hoping your talking about a cat not a car. lol but if that's the only
option it's better then putting him to sleep. Although he is probably too
fat to do much outside you have to be careful of diseases like upper
resopirotory that he can get even if he has all of his shots Also because
he has never been out he probably doesn't know what to do so keep an eye on
him for awhile to make sure he is aware of cars and busy roads. maybe tie
him on a harness for a week or two just so he will learn that he has to stay
in the yard then after that release him and he should do okay. He needs a
warm heated place for winter though.

As far as his weight, the vet says that he is overweight, but seems to be
very healthy otherwise, so he was never that concerned about it.

I kept an eye on his today and he was fine in the yard, ran around a bit and
stuck to the dog house. He even laid out in the grass and slept a bit.

At this point I am not to concerned about his getting out of the yard. The
fence is six feet high and there is no way that he can jump anywhere high
enough to get over it and there is nothing for him to jump onto in the yard.

Thanks for the input.

Default Could not do it

After having him out there for a day, I decided that I could not bear to
keep my fat guy out there like that, so I brought him back in and my wife
and I will work it out.

If you're keeping him inside, spray Feliway in his litter box to
encourage him to use it. Can't hurt to try.

Default putting an inside car outside ??

Hi,

I just wanted to put my two cents worth in on this conversation.

You said that your wife hates the cat, and that you have a 14-month
old. Have you ever thought maybe he is throwing a hissy fit... okay,
bad pun, I agree. Has he been getting the attention he is used too?
Have you tried moving the litter box to a different location? Have you
tried purchasing a new litter box?

One suggestion I have is if you have a friend or family member that
could take him in for a week or so, let that person take him and see if
he has this issue there. Ask yourself how your lifestyle may have
changed to cause this behavior in him. If you have moved into a new
home since this has started, maybe the flooring and/or carpet have
other animal odors on them. He could be thinking that the house is a
whole new sandbox just for his pleasure.

Since there is nothing medically wrong with him, I would start thinking
like a cat. How would you show someone who didn't understand your
language that you were upset, depressed, neglected if you were a cat? I
think if I was a cat and feeling all of those things and then some, I
may just take a dump on the floor too. (I can see me being invited to a
lot of parties after this... hehe).

If you love your cat, and you really seem to care for him, then think
of this from his point of view. I know my furry friends do not like
changes; I also know they definately do not like being neglected. I
have furniture, clothes, and scars from kitties that feel they deserve
110% of my attention, and expect that attention when they want it, not
when I want to give it.

Good luck,
Stephanie
