My boss has me sussed (not OT)
It's that time of year again when Dr G's family drag him on holiday (ignoring
his protests- the man is an infamous workaholic!) And today he's back- the family must be getting good at it as he was due back next Monday and today's only Friday- last year he managed to escape by the Wednesday before he was due back And after last year when he brought me back Whamsee Two- this year he;s brought me back the most adorable, soft, cuddly black and white cat! (My office now has 4 cats on one shelf, a mug with the most adorable tabby kitten on it and of course my PC wallpaper is another tabby kitten and there's two cat pictures on the notice board- one of them being of Stamford from my old job- and we won't mention the contents of the bookshelf- suffice to say about a third of the titles have the word "Cat" in there somewhere) And he says he's got a home made apple cake to bring in for me I am sittting here feeling well and truly guilty about the fact that in another few weeks I'll have to tell him that I am leaving! What a very nice boss you have! And he excelled it later Okay go on and have a go I deserve it but I have been trying to find a dentist to sort out my bad tooth I am prepared to go through root canal work etc and my current dentist isn't prepared to do anything beyond extraction they're not even prepared to refer me to have it done. I know it might not suceed I've had two teeth done that way and one is still there 26 years later but the other one had to be removed so I am at least realistic about the odds and prepared to pay the extra but I would sooner have the tooth than have it extracted..to be exact I can handle having a tooth taken out if I am in the chair and it's unexpected but would sooner get into a lift than make an appointment to have a tooth out (And I am currently seeing a clinical psychologist about my lift phobia! After 8 weeks I can walk into a lift as long as he keeps the door open I still can't even stand there and watch the door close even if I can stop it by putting my hand in the way) And it's flared up not badly but enough for me to be sitting at work facing having to take the afternoon off and hope my dentist could see me to have a go at me for not having it out even through I have told them I am prepared to try and save it and they don't seem intrerested so I was telling Davy G that I would have to take the afternoon off just to go to Hammersmith to get a prescription for Amoxycillin 5 days tds He wrote me a private prescription for it... 9.50 at the pharmacy and after 2-3 doses it's settled down I haven;t even taken a painkiller today and it's now no longer out of bite which means this week I need to talk to the dentist on site who has said he might consider doing root canal work read- if I am prepared to have it done privately so I will have rto ask how much? You must be mad ;-) The first time my boss brings me a present back will indeed be the first and a breathing pretend cat would not be cheap. If I lived nearer I would be offering to take over your vacancy. Are you sure you want to leave this job? Tweed |

Yes...the sad thing is I don;t want to leave him because he's very nice but there are some other people there that I will be glad to see the back of! He'll be retiring in the next few years so I have to think if I stay then he goes I'll be a few more years older and frankly I am still in shock that I managed to completely change careers at 45 and that even at 50 I can go out and interview and be offered other jobs. Also this new job sounds a bit more interesting as they have someone who does most of the audio typing, which I dislike (and frankly I am not that good at it- I mean I would probably look impressive to someone who doesn't type for a living but I am the World's fastest 3 finger typist being self taught and not one of these typing whizz kids who uses all their fingers- my boss Bev who is an ex- medical secretary can type 95+ words per minute- I'm an accurate 45-50 maybe 65 but then I start making mistakes) so I'll only do a little light typing (The other typist does 3 mornings a week so if something urgent comes up when he's not there that sort of thing) and much more organisational work and proper PA work like diary management Also I have gotten sick of standing on the tube for 35 minutes each way (okay half the time I get a seat) and the delays and the strikes and being crushed in like a sardine so you arrive at the office already tired out and p***ed off and badly in need of a shower in warm weather even through I have one when I get up and spending 24.20 a week for the "privilege". The new job is 20-25 minutes on the bus, there are 3 routes from the top of the road so I'll be pretty much guaranteed a seat (even if I have to wait for the one that starts just round the corner but I have been studying them in the rush hour since I got the job and none of them get that packed), one route goes through Victoria Park so you even get a nice view. And for this I pay 9.00 a week so I save almost 61.00 a month, which in these times of rising prices is always a help I mean that's the Hills S/D for the month, quite a few pouchies of wet, a couple of mousies for Sarsi to play with and a few bags of cat litter (Note how I have my priorities right...) and probably still some change for ...more mousies for Sarsi to play with! And a new feather onna stick every month! It's also about getting my life back in some kind of order so that the department at work is covered I have to be in at 8.30 where I am now- this means getting up at 6.45 so I am out for 7.30 so even if the tubes are bad I am still on time then I like a quick one after work sometimes so I might not get back until 7.30 and by then I am tired out especially if it's hot so I have to go to bed early it means we don't see to much of each other in the week. On the new job even if they wanted me in for 8.30, I would have an extra half hour in bed, get home earlier and be able to stay up a bit later which is more time to skritchie the cats and less importantly talk to Dave So yes I am glad to have the new job I am just wishing I could persuade Davy G to come with me!
