Default Meow Chamber

The Stripey Thing is a quiet sort of cat. He has a quiet meow and
wanders around on the bed gently. Unless... he is on the ledge. The
ledge is a half wall that overlooks my stairwell coming up into the
apartment. The half wall overlooks the first half of the stair case
heading down. Stripey Thing gets at the furthest point on the wall and
WAILS. LOUD. The chamber that is the stairwell makes it really loud.
When he is feeling his oats and is running around the apartment, he will
also get up on the wall and start meowing loudly. He's only discovered
this effect in the past six months or so, so it is really pretty funny.
If I call to him, he comes racing into where I am and gets some rubs and
then goes back up on the half wall.

It's his version of singing in the shower!

(Actually, Licky likes to meow in the bathtub, I think he likes the
acoustics in there.)

Now that you mention it, Stripey Thing DID used to sing in the bathtub.
But then I moved and he hasn't done it here. So I guess it will be one
thing gained back from the move for him (not that he has suffered in any
way from being moved, in fact, we found ALL his pompoms when we did). I
think he attains a much higher volume here in the stairwell!

It could be a territorial thing. Stinky likes to yowl and bellow, but he
only seems to do it in certain places.

Well, for now, it seems the chamber echo of the stairway belong to him
and he has let everyone know it. I don't think he has claimed the
stairs, because everyone else seems to do just fine getting up and down
them to the litter box. He could be claiming the ledge though! He's so
silly and so sweet, it is hard to imagine him claiming anything though.
