We had 2 cats come into our garden to investigate the litter tray and
tasty treats we put down by the trap last night. We scared them away but
I'm glad it's having the desired effect. *Trap was empty this morning but
it's early days.

Hi Everyone

I just had to post because our local newspaper is going to do an article on
Smudgie! I emailed them at the weekend in the hope they may do a little
piece saying she is lost but they are doing an article with pictures and
everything! *Oh I do hope this helps to find her.

Thank you all for your support, which continues to keep me so positive.

And once you get her, she will be a celebrity.

That is *EXCELLENT*! How nice of the paper's editor to do this for you. I
hope it brings Smudgie home to you. I know the longer it goes without
getting her you, you get very disheartened, sad, and tend to give up hope.
But you have been given so much help and so much hope - and that goes quite
a way towards helping you relieve the anxiety.

They will not have been lost, Marie, almost all UK cats are allowed out all
the time.
We have a totally different country. No bears, no cougars, no crocodiles,
one venomous snake that I've never seen and could not hurt a cat anyway.

I know you will get her back soon. Update your lamp posts
saying she is seen near home and for no-one to feed her under any
circumstances or she won't come back.
You will definitely have to trap her now.
Still purring and praying.

From what I have read, Smudgie seems to be lost -- at least her meowmie
thinks so. Smudgie may feel like she is just on an earned vacation .
LOL. Yes, there is a lot of wild country in Utah, but Salt Lake is a
very modern metropolitan city with well over oner million population. I
would venture a guess that the worst predator here is "man". MLB

I've personally never heard of a cat being injured or consumed by any
of those things.

I know a little about Salt Lake, most of my family are Mormons.
I did try it but it was not for me.

I think the issue is that you seemed to imply that maybe the other
cats in Sharon's back yard were lost kitties, too. Maybe you didn't mean
to imply that, but that seems to be what Tweed thought, so she explained
that in the UK, it's most common for people to let their cats go outside.
So the other cats wandering around may not be lost cats at all, but just
cats out and about on cat business, and passing through Sharon's yard.
And who hopefully will not be trapped in the cage that's meant for Smudgie!

Don't know about crocodiles - maybe in Africa they eat cats? But cougars
have definitely been known to eat cats and dogs in suburban neighborhoods,
as human development overlaps cougar territories all throughout western
North America.

Pythons and other large constrictors are a scourge on the state of Florida
because of the exotic pet trade. People buy them and then set them free
when they can't deal with them, and the snakes have found the Everglades
(a large wilderness in south Florida) much to their liking. But they also
prowl around suburbia chowing down on cats and dogs, as well as endangering
the human populations (esp. kids). It's a big problem in that area.
