Default compasionate kitty

It is my firm belief that all breathings have some manner of the
understanding of love and caring, both for their own kind and other kinds
that show them some kindness, soft, who's grandfather taught her that all
living things have value

Kayla and I were walking in a field and found an abandoned kitten no more
than a week old. I carried the kitten home in my hat and fed it a mixture

of
fish oil and milk with an eye dropper until it could eat solid food. Kayla
would catch mice and bring them to the young cat. I've seen as many as 3
mice laid out for the cat at one time. The cat and Kayla, a domesticated
Arctic wolf, bonded and have remained good friends these last 10 years.
Kayla had major surgery for a gun shot wound and is partly crippled, a
condition that seems to worsen as she ages. We had a rare break in the
weather yesterday and Kayla, Rambo, and the cat were laying out in the
sunshine. The cat got up, walked to where Kayla was laying, and carefully
placed her paw on Kayla's paw. There was a shared look between them that
seemed very human and intimate. After a few moments the cat returned to

her
resting place. People underestimate the intelligence and emotional
expressions of these animals.

Kayla had major surgery for a gun shot wound and is partly crippled, a
condition that seems to worsen as she ages. We had a rare break in the

There's no doubt in my mind that's the case.

I've told this story before on rec.pets.cats.anecdotes. My brother Pat
had a beautiful, spirited English Springer Spaniel named Bridget and an
aging Siamese cat named Samantha. Bridget and Sam got a along ok, but
were never really close. One of Bridget's favorite things to do was to
bark at neighbor kids who walked close to the front fence. Almost two
years ago, Bridget starting getting really ill (colon cancer). One sunny
spring day Pat went out in his front yard, spread a blanket on the
ground, and had a seat. Bridget and Sam both came to join him. When some
kids walked past the fence, Bridget was too tired and sick to go bark at
them. Apparently knowing that Bridget was too ill, Samantha took her
place! This very placid, calm kitty ran up to the fence and yowled that
weird, unique yowl that only Siamese cats can do. Since Bridget was too
sick to bark at the kids, Samantha did it for her.

Bridget went to the Rainbow Bridge a couple of months later. When she
did, Samantha greived for her for a solid month. Samantha is still
around, and still going strong.
