Default Wierd Suggestion of the week

I was browsing through the August issue of Everyday magazine (Rachael
Ray) and one of the thing suggested was to put cat fur in your bird
feeder to keep squirrels away.

Huh?

Never heard or imagined that one before.

Considering how our squirrels "scream" at our cats and us, I doubt a
little bit of cat fur will deter them.

Well, when I brush the cats, in the spring, I put the fur out on the bushes
and the birds grab it for next building. I never saw it help to keep
squirrels away. But then, maybe mid west squirrels are just stupid!

I should think it would be likely to keep the BIRDS away, too! ;-)

It is generally thought that birds don't have much sense of smell, except
carrion eaters. Recent research indicates they do, but it seems to be
oriented toward food identification ... after all, birds don't have much
need to smell predators - they are mostly very visual oriented.
