Quality food from mass-market vendors?
Mary wrote: Yes. Now in many flavors, "beef" or "chicken" are the first ingredient, whereas before it was byproducts. Tender Beef Feast is a good one as is Salmon Feast. They are both ground foods. Actually, water is the main ingredient (as in any canned food). |

I was wrong about Tender Beef Feast. The first ingredient listed is "Beef broth" then "liver" "fish" THEN "meat byproducts." The first ingredient in the Chopped Grill Feast flavor is "meat byproducts" and that is the way all the FF labels used to read. OTOH, the first ingredient in Salmon Feast is "salmon," and the first ingredient in Chicken Feast is "Chicken broth" then "chicken" THEN meat byproducts. I would use the ones Phil recommends but my girls will only lick the gravy off the chunky/sliced varieties, whereas they eat all of the ground or flaked kind. |

Most people tend to think that pet food labels follow the same rules as human food labels. Since water is the primary ingredient (or constituent), what is the purpose of looking at the ingredient label at all? Surely, you cannot ascertain the quality of a food just by looking at an ingredient label? Especially since the quality of each individual ingredient is not given. |
