Wonderful story - that put tears in my eyes.

But I do wonder why the cat was with him in the truck to begin with?
The article said she was an indoor cat. No suspicions about the guy, I'm
just curious how she happened to be there. He seems like a good guy.

As an aside, I wonder why the windows wouldn't open? The water pressure
on the windows would be pressing against the glass, which shouldn't
prevent
it from rolling down into the door if someone is cranking the window
opener.

From the story, it sounded like he was taking the cat from wherever he
lived to safer ground. In fact, his mother said he went back to his
home, which was at risk of flooding, in order to get the cat and bring
it with him to a safer area.

Electric windows short out when a vehicle is submerged, making them
impossible to open. Every so often around here someone goes off the road
into a pond or the ocean, and as a result of news reports on such
tragedies, some people carry a rock or hammer in their cars to break
through the windows if they should ever find themselves in such a situation.

I have always thought that there should be some sort of emergency hand-crank
override specifically because there are occasions (like this one) where the
electric windows will not work. I also think there are some features that
are needed in an emergency that should be in a "universal" place so a person
would automatically reach to that position even when driving an unfamiliar
car. Of course, none of these things have ever been installed by auto
manufacturers. I do have one of those devices that are designed to break a
window (one end of the hammer-like device) or cut seat belts (the other end
of the same device). They are sold by AAA, and I got mine through
amazon.com. I keep mine in the top of the glove box, and I hope I would be
rational enough to remember it and reach for it if I am ever caught in an
emergency such as a flood or fire.

$Overflown? I thought that was what U2 spy planes did, back in the
$60s. The rivers OVERFLOWED their banks, is more like it.

That is what overflown means, and it is applied to things like
aricraft and birds, not to rivers.

Let's not try to confuse the Doctor with facts, and actually the image of
rivers flying over the province was mildly amusing for a second or two

But then it was back to business as usual

I.E. Southern Alberta could become a big lake.

vehicle.. The Velcro right in place I have 3 in my truck one on each side

Yes, that's the type I have. Mine is in the glove box (within easy reach of
driver or passenger). I think I may get some to mount on the floor. I
don't think I would want one mounted on Velcro above the back window because
an accident can cause tremendous force--that one could tear loose and become
a lethal flying object.

Next time he wants to crap in a plant pot it's going to take more than
a water spray bottle to scare him off.

One thing - can you reach the glove box while the seat belt is on? (I can't
in my car.) If you were stuck in your seat belt, would you be able to get
the tool that can get you out of the seat belt?

I'm really glad I have a crank window opener! It's inconvenient when I'm
driving on the freeway and want to close the passenger window, but otherwise,
it's fine.

Apparently that was true before the flood - this cat has always been
fascinated by water (including liking to go *in* water). Maybe she's part
fishing cat.
