Or even buy a new batch of the same food? It's possible that a change has been made in the formulation of one of the types you have been using. If you have recently bought a new supply of the same food, it would be helpful if you can check to see if both versions were produced at the same location. All of the same foods, some bought at the grocery store, some bought from PetSmart. I'm not sure how that can help? I get Ca Natural from Petfooddrirect but Sammy doesn't eat much of that. We had a new batch come in a few days ago, but I'm still working on the old batch. No one reacted to it when I opened it about 6 weeks ago. It would have to be any of the Fancy Feast or some of the Friskies because I decided to supplement some of the canned expensive food with canned cheaper food but I've been doing that since Sept when I took Sammy in. -- CAPSLOCK–Preventing Login Since 1980. Oh my... Purrs for All the kitties, as well as the humans. Mega purrs for a quick diagnosis, solution and explanation to what's going on. Sylvia & Pit2nya Thanks Sylvia and Pit2nya (cute name). I hope to learn more tomorrow. -- CAPSLOCK–Preventing Login Since 1980. |

The reason I was a bit suspicious was that you said that none of your cats are eating normally now, and you found liquid vomit on your bed (but not from Sammy). So, I was trying to think of something that could have affected all of your cats. Along these same lines, could there be something in the house or in their play area that could affect them?--for example, a new plant (real, artificial or dried) that they could be nibbling on? Hi guys and Happy new year! I know I haven't posted here much lately but I skim the group to keep up. Anyway, I wanted to update you on Sammy the Maine Coon. Well, he's not feeling so well. On Saturday he started vomiting up all of his food and hasn't eaten much since then. I even found a puddle of liquid vomit without food in it yesterday, just saliva and there was a good bit of bright red blood in it. He's not hiding and he comes out for some loving for a bit, so he isn't totally lethargic but I brought him to the vet this morning. She noticed he has some pain when feeling his stomach area, around the kidneys. But no indication of why he would have red blood in vomit because that should be coming from somewhere close to his mouth. My thought it possibly he broke a blood vessel in the esophagus from the vomiting, but vet says that would take a really lot of constant vomiting to break a blood vessel, but there are no other thoughts on that at this time. She x-rayed him but didn't get a good visual of his stomach or intestines, not enough to tell if there's a blockage of some kind so the plan of action is for her to wait for his blood test results and if they come back normal he'll have to go to a specialist if he doesn't improve. Should know tomorrow. She gave him fluids and a shot of anti-nausea medicine and since he's been home he ate a little bit, but not much. When he was out here with me in the living room he tried to jump up on the arm of the couch where I was sitting but couldn't do it, so he is back in "his" room sleeping or just resting. Yesterday he had no trouble jumping to the very same spot. We just don't know what's going on with him. Please keep him in your thoughts. He will be 10 years old on 4/5 so he isn't very old. Thank you! Purrs Ann |

Since you can't pin it down to a change in food or a change in their environment it's puzzling. Purrs continue for all of them (and for you). Jill |

Purrs and prayers being sent for you to find out quickly what's causing this and for Sammy and Shamrock to get better soon. It could just be virus, we have a nasty one here at the moment which is causing humans to have severe vomiting problems, maybe it's something similar. Judith When I told my vet that Shamrock was also vomiting, she told me the same thing, that it could be viral or bacterial, as in just a "bug" but to keep an eye on them. Sammy ate a little more today, but still not up to his normal appetite. Shamrock hasn't eaten anything but has had a little water. Vet gave me some anti-nausea med for both of them to take 1x per day in the morning for up to 4 days, but if in 2 days there's no improvement in either, to bring them back. Sammy's blood work was perfect, only the white cell count was a little low presumably being used to fight of whatever is going on. Thank you all for the well wishes and purrs. I'll keep you updated. -- CAPSLOCK–Preventing Login Since 1980. |

Sammy ate some soft food with a little warm water in it, but Shamrock wasn't going for that or any other food. One thing he can't resist is shrimp. I microwaved 2 frozen ones and chopped them up small and mixed them into some regular canned cat food with a little extra water added. At first he rejected the bowl, but now he's eating. I just hope he doesn't throw it all up later. I'll be watching both of them. -- CAPSLOCK–Preventing Login Since 1980. |
