no idea where a cat could go that long? maybe someone took them in and didnt
let them back outside till now?

Indeed good news and a happy ending! It's amazing how far cats can
wander. Some of them even manage to hitch rides to distant places on
odd transportation without anyone knowing it until much later.

I'm a firm believer in microchipping. When Persia showed up at my back
door and insisted she live with me, the first thing the vet did was
check for a chip. After her great escape a few months later, I really
thought she was gone forever. She'd only lived with me a short while.

She did come home after worrying me sleepless for two days. When she
came home, the next day I made an appointment with the vet for a microchip.

She's never tried to run away again. I *know* she realized it's not
much fun sleeping under a bush when it's cold and raining. She came
back with mud and leaves stuck to her pretty grey fur. I brushed her
and she purred like crazy.

She learned pretty quickly home is where the food, water and comfy
places to sleep are.

I'm very happy your friends got their kitty back.

Yes, one would give up after that long. I'm so glad they got their cat
back.

My neighbors adopted a dog and the animal rescue people would not allow
my neighbors to take the dog off the premises until they had a collar
with an ID tag showing the dog's name and the owner's phone number.
We had to stop the adoption process and run down to Petsmart to get
one. I did the same thing for my cat, who is also microchipped.

Oops, sorry... this is in California, and pets don't have "owners."
They have "guardians."

that's great news, but a microchip is always a good idea.
Kitty Farmcat did not have one and got snatched and PTS by the friendly
RSPCA when I was in hospital.
Boyfie has a microchip so even if he went missing and was found hundreds of
miles away by getting in a van there is still the chance I'd get him back.
Not that he's likely to do that - he's far too fond of his duvet and his
routine ;-)

We here on RPCA prefer to call ourselves "slaves."

And another missing RPCA poster comes back home!

I was beginning to wonder if you'd got locked in somebody's
garage by accident while out foraging in bins one night.
