Default Nature's Miracle and leather?

I believe I've said before that Mike doesn't like holidays. The
sacred commandment "Thou Shalt Not Deviate From The Routine" always
gets broken, and we can't have that. This year, he showed his
disapproval of Thanksgiving by spraying my purse. My marvelous black
leather purse I bought last year and loved to pieces. It was kind of
expensive, but I didn't mind because I knew I'd be using it for years
and years; just a plain black bag made of lovely soft leather. Now it
*smells* less than lovely. Grrrrr.

I am sort of afraid to try saturating the thing with Nature's Miracle,
but don't know of anything else that'll get that smell out, especially
out of the seams. Have any of you tried this? Does it work? Will it
put big bleach spots on it or something? This is one of those times
where I go around repeating "I love my kitty" under my breath. ;-)

Um, here's my thought, Krista. With all the pee stuff we've had recently
with Midnight, I've found that the enzymatic cleaners "help" but have not
eradicated the smell totally (I got so I couldn't stand the smell of
Nature's Miracle, tried Simple Solution, and just recently, Petzyme)-- I
just ordered something one of the vets recommended called, and this is a
stupid name, "Anti-Icky Poo." If you go to www.mistermax.com you can read
about it, although I ended up ordering a $50 kit online at
http://www.catdoctor.com/thestore/pr...ip_gallon.html. The kit
includes a gallon of the stuff, plus a quart container and something to
enable you to inject your carpeting with it. Just got it today and I hope
to try it soonest! Will let you know what I think.

Good Lord! BT Rowdy is and has been *in love* with a purse in this
household, but he just sleeps on/around it and "guards" it with both
arms....he would never pee on it. And we thought Rowdy's lovebites were
annoying........! Good luck with the cleaning process. I, too, love good
leather and don't mind paying for it. I'd go with the pro leather cleaners
in lieu of DIY in this difficult job.

I would just use some saddle soap on it. Its cheap, good for the leather
and will probably take care of it. There are a number of leather
cleaners. I would hesitate to use an enzyme type pet cleaner on it.

I doubt it would bleach it, but one thought is that...well, it can't

really
be worse, can it?

Find a place that specialises in cleaning leather. There are places that do
that sort of thing, ask your dry cleaner.

Like Krista, even though whatever you may do my 'ruin' your purse, isn't it
pretty much 'ruined' already?

Does Natures Miracle have a web-site? That sounds like the sort of
question they'd answer by e-mail, if you can contact them. I've used it
on auto upholstery with no problem (it was that or aell the car), but
that wasn't leather, and I didn't CARE what it might do to the
appearance, just so I could stand to drive it without a gas mask.

Thanks for the responses, everyone. I think I am going to go ahead
and try the Nature's Miracle; I have it already on hand (surprise!!)
and, as was pointed out, have basically nothing to lose. The closest
professional leather cleaner is far, far away from where I live, here
at the edge of the known world, so I'll just give it a whirl myself.
Wish me luck!

PS: Christine, I am interested in hearing what you think about the
Anti-Icky-Poo; DH thought it was worth buying for the name alone. :-P

Well, Krista, I got it in the mail, yesterday and, thank you, Midnight, I
had immediate use for it. She peed a copious amount on the carpet next to
the computer desk -- we're talking saturated (sigh). So I poured the AIP
directly onto the carpet and then, get this, they send you a monster syringe
with needle (looks like for injecting elephants) so you can inject the stuff
directly through the carpeting into the pad underneath. I then wished all
those beneficial waste-eating bacteria happy dining. This weekend I'm going
to be seriously treating the carpet, blacklight and all. Will keep you
posted.

Waste-eating bacteria, eh? Cool. As the mom of an enthusiastic
sprayer, I will definitely be interested in hearing about how it works
out.
