Many years ago I took in a mother cat and 3 kittens. During that time,
I was very fond of Debussy's "Nocturnes," which I would play often. One
time when the kittens were about 6 weeks old, I had it on. The first part
is somewhat quiet and mellow, and doesn't have any startling sounds in
it. But the second movement starts out with much louder and higher-pitched
fast strings. There is a silence between the movements, and then suddenly,
blam! The strings. All the kittens scrambled out of the room in about 2
seconds. I still can't hear that music without remembering that.

My cats like it when I play the flute or recorder, unlike a lot of cats
belonging to other recorderists, who report their cats shooting in all
directions when they take out their instrument! Mine will even sit at
my feet and watch (I think it's the fascination of moving fingers, or
maybe it sounds like birds?) When I was a kid we had cats who would
sit in the window watching my mom's violin bow going up---- down, up---
down. just like ping-pong.

And let me guess, is Kreisleriana a violinist?
