Plague is spread by fleas so I suggest all cat owners take
precautions and flea treat *all* their pets including small furries as
recommended by your vet. You should also flea treat your carpets and
soft furnishings.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to do the yard also. Where I lived before I had
carpenter ants infest the house and had to spray outside weekly to keep a
barrier around the house to avoid re-infestation. The added bonus was that
the product I used also killed fleas. I just made sure that on the days
that I sprayed that my dogs weren't out playing in the yard.

I worry that something like this could cause a witch hunt of cats. I
hope rationality prevails. Any poor stray kitties in Wyoming better
watch out...

I hope so too. Wasn't it the killing of cats (for being witches' familiars)
that *caused* the plague in the middle ages??! Not enough cats let all
those rats with plague-carrying fleas spread throughout all of Europe
unchecked!

Hugs,

Yes, that's my understanding, too.
