They eat Fancy Feast canned twice a day (1 can each for each feeding) and
then they get Science Diet Mature Formula dry food to browse on. None of
them are overweight, though. Sammy is a rescue, like all my cats, but I
think she must have 99.999999% Maine Coon in her. You can't tell how big
she is by just looking at her until you see her next to a normal sized
cat -
she is perfectly proportioned. It takes both hands, held forefinger to
forefinger and thumb to thumb in order to encircle her neck. Ozzy and
Archer are not as big, but they're your typical orinj-stripey toms. Jessie
and Demi are nearer to being normal sized cats.

No your cats don't look overweight at all. Rusty doesn't look skinny
because his thick fur hide it. But just like me, he definitely needs
to put on some weight
Rusty has never had Fancy Feast since he came to live with me. Mostly
he eats differenct prescription food for his various ailments, the
latest being IBD. Sigh!

Winnie

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is he on a canned or dry diet? I tried taking away the dry altogether
because the canned is better for them, but Demi and Jessie both started
losing weight - and they can't afford to. I added the dry back and they
gained back the weight they lost.

He ate different canned prescription food for many years on vet's
order. With Rusty's
history of urinary blockages, the vet said he needed the extra water
from the canned.
But the lastest prescription food Gastro doesn't come in canned, so he
has been on dry food for several months now. Recently I supplemented
with some canned EVO as I read many IBD cats do well with EVO as it is
95% meat. Looks to me he likes
the EVO better than the Gastro. But back when he started on Gastro, he
loved it so
much he even stole from the bag.

Rusty is a 14 yr. old male (fixed) orange tabby. He weighs about 7-8
lbs.

Ah, it's so hard to get elder cats to keep weight on their bones. My Bandit
weighed 13 pounds until she hit 10 and then started losing weight rapidly.
The vet couldn't find a thing wrong with her and she stabilized at around 9
pounds and stayed that weight until the end of her life at 18.
