SOUTH ELGIN — An outbreak of a deadly cat virus sweeping across the
country has struck the Anderson Animal Shelter here, killing at least
40 felines at the shelter in the past two weeks.

The shelter, which normally finds homes for strays, temporarily has

of the disease, known as feline parvovirus or panleukopenia.
Volunteers also have been told to stay away while employees clean the
facility from top to bottom.
