Default 3 years of fleas! (long...sorry...it's a long problem)

I've posted here before so here we go again. I've done ALL the things everyone
here has proposed....nothing has worked. I live near Miami USA...so the fleas
don't die here like up north in the winter. three years ago I had a cat that
had some fleas...I took care and got rid of the fleas...no problem. But with a
longer haired cat I've had here for the past three years I treat him with
Frontline...he doesn't have the problem but apparently brings them in and
leaves em for me to deal with.
so...I'm at the end of my rope. I do laundry each day...wash the sheets in hot
water with strong Tide and bleach...run em in the dryer on hot for an
hour...some of bug the live Thru this! they live in my clothes too. I vacuum
almost everyday...an hour later they're biting me from the floor. As I
said...I've had the exterminators in...they sloshed everything soaking with
whatever and two days later...like they hadn't been here.
Other than getting rid of the cat...I'm at a loss.

I hate to tell you this, butif they are THAT bad, getting rid of the cat is
NOT going to help. You can track fleas in all on your own as well. This
simply does not sound normal to me. Do neighbors have the same problems? Of
course, you could also make the cat a totally indoor cat, but I just don't
think the cat is the problem. Are there bushes or trees near the house? I've
heard in areas where fleas are bad they are in the bushes and trees and you
can actually see them jumping out. They will jump on to you and what ever
you bring in as well.

You need to move if it is that bad. I lived in Miami for three years, and
had sand around
the house, which was on a lake. To stay flea-free (I had two indoor cats) I
had to wash down
the wood floors with a product called "Rid-a-bug" every month. I tracked
them in, there was no
way around it. I was glad to move.

I miss the food! The Cuban food, mostly! I also enjoyed the Coconut Grove
nightlife, but those days are gone.

I was back in the Grove a few years ago and its *nothing* like the
early eighty's any more. All big hotels and designer gallery malls,
chain restaurants (Hooters for Christ sakes!) etc. There was a bar
called Bananas on Main Hwy beside the Playhouse that had a really good
Latin house band, but it's gone and the Bananas on Commodore is not
the same thing.

It was "slicked up" by 1993.

You were there a few years before me, but seem to have enjoyed some
of the same kinds of things. I don't miss heat!

I recognize you, welcome back. Sorry you are stll having a problem.
I live in Texas and, while not as bad as Florada, we also have fleas
year round.

My next suggestion is to add an insect growth regulator ( IGR).
Program (lufenuron) is added to the cats food once a month and keeps
the new fleas from laying viable eggs before the Frontline or
Advantage can kill them. The combined treatment is recommended until
the fleas are under control. You can also have your vet give your cat
a shot of Program which lasts six months. That should be about $40+-.

With only one cat, that's what I would do.
