Default I've had enough (OT)

All I asked was that my brothers provide the attorney with a list of
furniture and household items they might want. What I got was a bill for
attending her funeral. Yeah, well here's a bill of my own: $87,000. lol

The caregiver agency charged $240 a day for someone to be here 24/7. I've
been here for over a year taking care of first both of my parents, then my
mother after my dad died. I've changed our mother's diapers, bathed her,
made sure her bills were paid. I did everything.

I already checked with the attorney; I'm perfectly within my rights to
charge for caregiving. I'm sure it never occurred to them. And that's a
bargain basement rate, too. The folks from the agency weren't cooking meals
three times a day, cleaning the house or providing laundry service day after
day after day. I'm not complaining, really. I'd have done anything for
her. I love my mother; she was my best friend.

I'm also going to charge the estate 2.5% (per the attorney's office) for
handling all the estate paperwork as executor. They (just one brother,
really) want to get nasty about it? It's going to cost a lot in the long
run.

Persia is snuggling next to me, making me feel better. There are all sorts
of birds and squirrels running around on the back patio; she chatters at
them.

And I'm still cat-sitting for Schwartzie and Fedders. That's fun Cute
black kitties. They each have a little bit of white fur on their chests.
Just a few strands.

GOOD FOR YOU. I hate to see such strife in a family but those guys need to
know "if you can't run with the big dogs, stay on the front porch". Have
you thought about talking to the others and making sure they know what is
possible and what this one a@@wipe is causing by his selfishness? Maybe
they already know. Hang in there Jill. You might remind them you asked
them for help from time to time and, they were too busy!!

Jill you are doing the best thing you can You got a lawyer You go the
legal rights. You are standing up for your self.

Oh also you can see if you can submit a bill of the lawyer cost to your
brother since he is the one causing legal actions. I know in Florida the
winning side can get back court and lawyer cost.

Can I please suggest something. Tell your brother that he may not contact
you directly anymore about the estate it must go through your lawyer and any
request must be made in writing through the lawyer. If he refuse take
criminal action it is now called harassment. Hit him where it hurts in the
pocket.

Also buy a micro recorder ( about $20) when he calls tell him that he is
being recorded in the beginning of the conversation. So you can use legally
against him ;-)

I hadn't thought of that! Thanks for the suggestion. I'll suggest the
attorney bill my brother since he's the one causing all this ruckus.

You won't believe, he's saying "provide a full accounting including those
furs". Furs? Check eBay... mink stoles sell for $15-50. Yeah, I'm sitting
on a friggin gold mine. Oh give me a break.

Can I please suggest something. Tell your brother that he may not contact

I've already told both of them I'm not discussing any of this except through
the attorney. I won't talk with him about this; I'm not answering the
telephone.

Sorry, I thought there were three brothers and the middle one was the
problem. So, at some point show them a statement, you would have gotten
this, not this, if you had played fair.

Furs? A dime a dozen around here. The recorder Matt suggested sounds like
a very good idea.

Funny thing. I was being harrassed by my ex husband in the 1980's and had
to tap my phone at work. That was back in the days of cassette tape
recorders. Of course I had to get my employer's permission, first. I used
a suction cup recorder device I bought from Radio Shack and hooked it up to
a cassette reocorder. I have no idea how to tap a telephone now.

Well, If he's entitled to a percentage of the estate, then he IS entitled
to a full accounting of the assets (including the "furs", toilet paper,
and
even the half eaten bag of potato chips).

Why haven't you gotten an appraiser in to go through the house and
fix a value to the property?

Yes! Laws in most states *require* an independent appraiser who will list
just about *everything.* That is often done for tax purposes but can also
be used to settle estate disputes.

MaryL
