So far I have one soon-to-be published magazine article and a cartoon
in a newspaper published once a month (these are both paying) and a
non-profit column in the local UU church newsletter.

I wish I knew how to get in touch with an agent and pursue other
avenues...I've been writing fiction and poetry all my life.

Yeah, getting anything published is hard - the legitimate publishing houses
won't even look at your work unless you have an agent, and an agent wants a
"proven" author - catch 22! I wish you luck, your talent really should be
shared with the rest of the world!
