About bloody time mom!!
I've been trying a new dried food on the cats. They normally eat
"Royal Canin Sensible 33" and they all find it very paletable and shovel it down. A 2kg bag usually lasts about 10 -14 days max, which is reasonable, given that they all have good appetites, also get gooshy food and are all a little on the *fluffy* side. Anyway, whilst I was at the pet store about 7-8 weeks ago, a rep from a company called Trophy pet foods uk approached me. She suggested I try their own brand trophy food as it had the same grade ingredients and formula as the Royal Canin and alledgedly very paletable. Trophy is also registered as an ethical pet food with the BUAV which was something that appealed to me. I duly did my independent research (as a complete cat food Nazi, I'm very fussy about what commercial cat food they eat because of IBD issues) and agreed to buy a 2kg bag a week later and I started feeding it..... This was 7 weeks ago. (49 days) I've recently been noticing that everyone is much hungrier than than normal at gooshy food time. I've also been noticing that the full feline delegation is always present at 11pm for supper, whereas before they only pitched up if they happened to be around. Then last night I realised that I hadn't filled the dry food container for over a week. I checked the bag and after 7 weeks, I still had 1/4 of the 2kg bag left! Normally a 2kg bag lasts 2 weeks! MAX! So this morning at 6am I conducted an experiment. I tipped out any remaining dried food and filled a small bowl with the Trophy cat kibble. At 2pm, it was untouched. Even Basil, the local niphead from 2 doors up refused the kibble when I offered it to him at lunchtime when he came on the scrounge. So, I went up to the local pet shop and bought a bag of Royal Canin. I came home and filled a bowl at 4pm. By 7pm the whole bowl had gone. No- one felt like their dinner and it was fresh fish! I refilled the bowl. At 11pm the 2nd bowl is 1/2 empty, and they didn't want gooshy food supper. Cleo hasn't stopped walking back and fore to the Royal Canin, and she hasn't stopped meowing and telling me "about bloody time the proper food was back mother!". Lily hasn't stopped yelling at me and looking in the bowl to check it's the right stuff, and even HRFL has started munching his way through the kibble again. I guess that told me! Royal Canin it is then! ;o) Helen M |
