I have been very, very busy lately with painting stuff for the trim
around the roof, etc. We decided to do all our own painting to save a
huge amount of money.

How exciting!! You have a beautiful view. Do they do basements in
Austrailia? I see the house is being built on a "pad". That rain
tank is the best idea. We should do it here-parts of my state have so
much problem with drought...when it rains it comes down in buckets but
that's all lost. May I ask what kind of flooring you are going to put
in? Don't mean to be nosy, just curious about the differences and
simularities.
